Quick answers

Creating a Funnel from a Template

  1. Go to Sell → Funnels and choose Browse Templates.
  2. Preview a template: Blank, Lead Magnet, Tripwire Sales, VSL Sales, Webinar Registration, Application, Product Launch, or Waitlist / Coming Soon.
  3. Use it and name the funnel.
  4. Edit the pages, link the email series, and check the automations the template set up.
  5. Go Live when the checklist is clear.

Funnel Basics

A funnel takes a stranger through a short journey: attract, engage, convert.

Common shapes

  • Lead magnet: opt-in page, thank-you page, email series, offer.
  • Webinar: registration, confirmation, the session, the offer.
  • Tripwire: free opt-in, a small paid offer, an upsell.
  • Launch: coming-soon page, pre-launch emails, cart open.
  • Application: information page, application form, review.

Measures

Opt-in rate, show-up rate for webinars, conversion rate, and revenue, all on the funnel's Overview.

Building a Funnel

  1. Sell → Funnels → New funnel, from a template or blank.
  2. Add page steps: opt-in, video, sales, checkout, upsell, thank-you. Give each a title and a slug.
  3. Edit each page in the builder.
  4. On Emails, link an Email Series and check the automations.
  5. Choose the funnel's goal.
  6. Preview the whole flow, complete it yourself, then Go Live.

Understanding Funnel Types

  • Lead Magnet: build your list with a free resource.
  • Tripwire Sales: turn a new lead into a buyer with a small offer, then upsell.
  • VSL Sales: a video sales page leading to checkout.
  • Webinar Registration: register people for a webinar and sell at the end.
  • Product Launch: build anticipation, then open the cart.
  • Waitlist / Coming Soon: collect interest before something exists.
  • Application: qualify people before you accept them.

Every type is a template under Sell → Funnels → Browse Templates.

Do I need a funnel?

Not always. A warm audience can go straight to an offer's checkout link. Funnels earn their keep when traffic is cold, when the offer is expensive, or when you want your list to grow on its own.

Start small: one offer, one opt-in page, a five-email series. Add steps when the data asks for them.

Funnel Emails

Funnel emails are an Email Series linked to the funnel.

Linking

Open the funnel, go to Emails, and Link Email Sequence to a series from Email Studio. Templates create and link one for you, with automations that start it when someone opts in.

Editing

Edit the series and its emails in Email Studio → Email Series: the waits between emails, the send time, and the content. Send a test to yourself before going live.

Timing that works

The first email immediately, then two or three days apart, five to seven emails, with the offer near the end.

Tracking Funnel Conversions

Per funnel

Open the funnel: the Overview shows views, leads, conversions, revenue and the conversion rate for the period.

All funnels

Insights → Analytics → Funnel Conversions: total views, conversions, average conversion rate and revenue, the trend over time, results by funnel type, and a card per funnel.

Reading it

Few leads from many views: the headline or the form. Leads but no sales: the offer or the emails. Set a period of seven, thirty or ninety days and compare.

How Funnel Email Automations Work

  1. Someone submits the funnel's opt-in form.
  2. They become a contact with the page's tag.
  3. The automation the template set up starts the linked Email Series.
  4. The series sends on its schedule.

Seeing and changing them

The funnel's Emails tab shows the linked series and its automations. Edit the emails and waits in Email Studio → Email Series; edit the flow in Audience → Automations.

Stopping

A contact leaves the series when they unsubscribe, when an automation removes them, or when they finish it.

My funnel isn't converting

First, is it working?

Complete your own funnel: does the contact appear, does the thank-you page load, does the first email arrive? If not, the problem is setup, not persuasion.

Then read the numbers

Insights → Analytics → Funnel Conversions, and the funnel's Overview. Many views and few leads point at the headline or the form. Leads and no sales point at the offer or the emails.

Quick fixes

A headline about them, email plus first name only, one testimonial, an image of what they get, and urgency only when it is real.

Benchmarks

Lead magnets: twenty to forty percent opt in. Webinar registration: twenty to thirty. Sales pages: one to five.

How do I edit my funnel emails?

Funnel emails are an Email Series linked on the funnel's Emails tab.

  1. Open the funnel, then Emails, to see which series is linked.
  2. Open that series in Email Studio → Email Series.
  3. Edit an email's subject and content in the builder, or change its wait.
  4. Send a test to yourself.

New subscribers get the updated series. People already in it continue from where they are.
