Contacts: The Complete Reference
Updated 5 September 2026
Audience → Contacts is the one list of everyone who has joined you: subscribers, leads, buyers, students and community members.
The list
Each row shows the person, their tags, when they joined, and what they have spent. Search by name or email. The filters down the side are your tags: the system ones such as Newsletter, Website, Landing Page, Customer, Student, Manual, Imported and Community Member, plus any you create. Needs attention shows contacts whose email has bounced or complained.
Tags
System tags are applied automatically from how someone joined and what they did. Your own tags are made with New tag and applied on a contact's record, when adding a contact, or to a whole import. Automations can add and remove tags too.
A contact's record
Open a contact to see their tags, an Activity Timeline, Recent Purchases, Course Access with a Grant Course Access action per course, and Private Notes only you can read. You can delete a contact from here.
Adding one person
Add contact: email, first and last name, tags, optional course access, and a confirmation that you have permission to contact them.
Importing
Import walks you through a CSV: upload (up to 5,000 contacts per file, five imports a minute), map columns (email is detected; first and last name optional), confirm how consent was obtained, choose tags for everyone in the file, optionally grant course access, review, import. Duplicates already in your list are skipped, and imported contacts get the Imported tag.
Exporting
Export all downloads your contacts as CSV.
Email health
Every contact carries a health status: healthy, bounced, complained or unsubscribed. Bounced and complained addresses are suppressed automatically and never emailed again. Unsubscribed contacts keep any courses they own and stay in your list, but receive no broadcasts unless they subscribe again themselves.
Limits
Contacts per plan: 1,000 on Starter, 15,000 on Pro, 50,000 on Elite. Community-only members never count; someone counts once they become a subscriber, a student or a buyer. See your usage under Settings → Billing.
Good practice
Never import a bought list. Keep tags few and consistent. Export a backup now and again. Respect unsubscribes the moment they happen.
