Custom Domains

Connect your own domain to your Gadura website

Quick answers

Connecting Your Custom Domain

  1. Go to Website → Settings.
  2. In the Domain box, type your domain and press Connect. Gadura connects the www address, for example www.yourdomain.com.
  3. At your domain provider, add the records Gadura shows: a CNAME for www pointing to fallback.gadura.link, and an A record for @ with the value 76.76.21.21.
  4. Gadura checks on its own. Check again asks it to look now.

HTTPS is automatic. Your provider keeps the domain; nothing is transferred, and your email records stay as they are.

Setting Up Your Custom Domain

Before you start

A domain you own and access to its DNS settings.

Steps

  1. Go to Website → Settings.
  2. In the Domain box, type your domain, with or without www, and press Connect. A new connection uses the www address.
  3. At your domain provider, add the records shown:
    • a CNAME for www pointing to fallback.gadura.link
    • an A record for @ with the value 76.76.21.21, so the address without www sends every page to www. If the domain is forwarded at your provider, remove that forwarding first, and keep only this one A record for @.
  4. Gadura checks on its own. Check again asks it to look now.

HTTPS

Certificates are issued for you once the domain is connected.

Your email

Leave every other record as it is, especially MX and TXT records. Your email keeps working.

Should I use www or non-www?

New connections use the www address, for example www.yourdomain.com. Every domain provider can point www at Gadura.

The address without www

yourdomain.com still works for visitors. Give it an A record for @ with the value 76.76.21.21 and Gadura sends every page to the same page on www.

Domains connected before

A domain that was connected without www keeps that address.

Website → Settings shows whether both addresses reach your site.

Setting up a GoDaddy domain

  1. In Gadura, go to Website → Settings, type your domain and press Connect.
  2. In GoDaddy, open My Products, then DNS beside the domain.
  3. Add a CNAME with name www and value fallback.gadura.link.
  4. If the domain is forwarded under GoDaddy's Forwarding, delete that forwarding. GoDaddy's forwarding only moves the home page.
  5. Edit the A record with name @ (it may say Parked) so its value is 76.76.21.21. Keep only this one A record for @.

Leave your email records (MX, TXT and the email CNAMEs) as they are.

Checking

Gadura checks on its own. After fifteen to thirty minutes, Check again under Website → Settings shows the result. Every page of yourdomain.com then opens on www.yourdomain.com.

Why is my domain not working yet?

DNS changes take time to spread: often minutes, sometimes hours, rarely up to two days.

While you wait

Gadura checks on its own. Check again under Website → Settings asks it to look now. Try a private window or another device.

After a day

Compare your records with the ones Gadura shows: a CNAME for www pointing to fallback.gadura.link, and an A record for @ with the value 76.76.21.21. Check for stray characters and the right record types, and that any forwarding of the domain has been removed. Then message us with your provider and a screenshot of your DNS.

SSL Certificate Status

Pending

Waiting for your DNS records to be detected. Give it fifteen to thirty minutes and check again.

Verified

DNS points to Gadura and the certificate is issued. Your site is live over HTTPS.

Error

Records were removed or changed, the domain expired, or a record conflicts. Fix the DNS, or remove and reconnect the domain.

Certificates are free and automatic; there is nothing to buy or install.

Domain Health Check

Gadura checks your domain on its own and shows the result under Website → Settings. Check again asks it to look now.

  • Connected: your site answers on your domain. A note marked Optional improvement can appear underneath, for example when the address without www does not yet send visitors to www.
  • Connecting: Gadura is waiting for your records to arrive or for the certificate to be issued.
  • Action needed: something at your domain provider needs changing. The message says exactly what.

The address without www needs an A record for @ with the value 76.76.21.21. Gadura then sends every page to your www address.

Changing or Removing Your Domain

Removing

Site Settings → Domain → Remove domain. Your site returns to your gadura.site address immediately.

Changing

Remove the current domain, connect the new one, add the records at the new domain's registrar, and check verification.

One domain per site

Each site carries one custom domain. Tidy up old DNS records at the registrar after removing a domain; they do no harm but are clutter.

Troubleshooting Domain Issues

The address without www shows a parked page or an error

It needs an A record for @ with the value 76.76.21.21. Remove any forwarding of the domain at your provider, and keep only this one A record for @.

Only the home page works without www

Your provider is forwarding the domain, which moves the home page only. Remove the forwarding and add the A record above. Gadura then sends every page to www.

Still connecting after a day

Check that the CNAME for www points exactly to fallback.gadura.link and that you edited the right domain.

Domain already connected to another site

Message us with proof you own the domain.

Certificate stuck on pending

Remove the domain, wait five minutes, connect it again, and check after fifteen minutes.

Still stuck

Message us from the Help launcher with the domain, your provider, and a screenshot of your DNS settings.
